מייקיטה נוסד בברלין בשנת 2003, והוקם בתוך מבנה שהיה גן ילדים לשעבר שנקרא קיטה. המותג, שקיבל את שמו בהשראת גן הילדים קיבל גם השראה מערכים של חופש דמיון, יצירתיות וסקרנות. עם חזון אסתטי ברור, מייקיטה אימץ לעצמו עצמאות על ידי הקמת מנגנון יצור IN HOUSE כשאף אחד לא היה יכול לייצר את העיצובים המקוריים והמיוחדים שלהם. כתוצאה, המותג פיתח כלים ותהליכים המשלבים מלאכת יד יחד עם טכנולוגיה חדשנית. בשנת 2014, מייקטה עבר לבניין היסטורי בקרויצברג, בהובלת המייסד מוריץ קרוגר והצוות שלו. המחויבות שלהם לחדשנות, התנסויות ויצירתיות ניכרת בעיצובים הפשוטים, הפונקציונליים וזוכי הפרסים של המותג.
